Repower/transmission

At the early “thinking” stage of repowering with a Beta 35/38 and was curious on what transmission would be best as far as reliability? I have a fair amount of knowledge on the diesel side but really blank on what makes for a good transmission. Any options to shy away from?

Re: Repower/transmission

I recently replaced a Hurth HBW50 with a NewAge PRM60. Cost was about the same as parts alone to rebuild the old one. I don't have that boat anymore but it worked great. Beta uses them on some of their models so they must be good, and there have been several posts here from people having good results with them. They have larger models appropriate for a 38 HP engine. Doesn't the new Beta come with a trans? If it's offered as an option, I'd just use the one they supply. They know what they're doing.

Re: Repower/transmission

Are you ever going down a sort of hybrid route? The PRM 150 is the box they use for that and then have a large belt to take the power to a AC generator.

Worth a thought?

Re: Repower/transmission

At about 16,000 lbs displacement, the Beta 35 would be plenty of power. Use a TMC 60 or PRM 125 transmission. Both are very reliable.
