No one has mentioned Autoprops! The blades do have a twist to them, but the big advantage is that they continuously and automatically adjust blade angle based on (actual) speed thru the water and eng torque. There is no mechanical adjustment, and they automatically go to feather when not driven(eng off and sailing. We installed ours back in 2002, and have been happy with it ever since. We've noticed an increase in boat speed for a given RPM, a slight increase in fuel economy, and the only mx/attention is to grease each of the 3 hubs when we annually haul out. no saying it's the best, or the only choice....but surely worth a look. The only down side we've noted is that going from fwd to rvs....there is a short time delay before the blades change(reverse) and bite. But I'd guess the Maxprop also takes some time to respond going into rvse?
