Looking for EU source for in stock HBW 150 v transmission or new ZF equivalent

We are looking to replace our HBW 150 V transmission with a rebuilt one or a new ZF 15 MIV. Ratio of A: 2.99 and B: 2.22. The ZF rep sent us to a technician who is quoting 4200 euros and 8 weeks for the new or 1700 euros and 6 weeks. I have 4 weeks left on the Schengen visa and husband has 6 weeks. If anyone has any information on where I can get either of these, in stock, in the EU please let us know. We running out of options. We are headed to Cape Verde by way of Madeira and the Canaries. We had planned to cross to the Western Caribbean after the new year and I would prefer to have a reliable transmission.

Sigh. 73 people have looked at this and no suggestions. Bump.

Re: Looking for EU source for in stock HBW 150 v transmission or new ZF equivalent

Have you considered using a US vendor and having them FedEx it to you? Trans Atlantic Diesels (no affiliation) in Virginia quoted me $1,700 US for a brand new HBW-125 recently. They've always been a very good and reputable vendor to deal with. The cost of the HBW-150 should be only slightly more. Three day international shipping would probably be several hundred dollars, but sounds like it would be worth it in your situation if they have the part in stock. If they don't have it I've heard good things about Harbor Marine of Everett, WA and Federal Marine Transmissions of Countryside, IL as Hurth dealers though I don't have any personal experience.

Some people have had luck getting Twin Disc transmissions to drop in place of a Hurth. It's an avenue worth exploring but measure carefully.

Thanks for the suggestion 4Arch. We are well acquainted with TAD. The customs and duty are more than the shipping so I was hoping that from a EU source costs would work out better. No such luck. Will probably try to ship it into the Canaries where the VAT is only 7% and not 23% like in Portugal. Shipping and handling charges are included in the VAT and the entire transaction, including shipping/handling are included when calculating VAT.

Thanks for the links Alex. Will give them a call later today. Always nice to have a reference for a company rather than playing internet roulette. Hoping that sourcing from within the EU will work out easier and cheaper than from the US. Thanks again!

Re: Looking for EU source for in stock HBW 150 v transmission or new ZF equivalent

isn't ZF the owner of Hurth, ZF boxes are easy to get in Europe.

With the price of the pound against the euro, and in general, I try and source in Euros, generally works out cheaper.
