On the "Run" menu type "cmd" and press enter. A DOS window will open. Type "tracert" and the domain name of the server you want to trace. What you'll see is the DNS servers that have to be traversed to make the connection to the server. The more hops the longer the response time.

To "ping" a server to see if it's alive open the DOS window as before and type "ping" and the domain name of the server.
And you think I may know what that would be?
And would spell it correctly for DOS to get?
I am less able than you might think.
Thanks.

Microsoft doesn't allow ICMP (the protocol ping and tracert use) traffic in for various reasons.

I didn't know that! I suppose it wouldn't take much to write a script to ping the crapola out of a server in a "Denial of Service" attack!

Apple.com timed out. Sony.com worked. Google.com worked. Netscape.com timed out so obviously not everybody blocks their servers.

Can you save it as a "jpeg"? This way it'll be smaller in size. MS Paint probably wants to save it as a "bmp" (bitmap) file type which is huge. If that fails e-mail it to me and I'll convert it for you.

Most web browsers cannot render bitmapped images inline. They must be .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .png etc. That's why it showed up as a file attachment.
