FL Keys: mooring offshore?

Anyone care to share experiences and recommendations for liveaboard outside of a marina anywhere in the keys? Within dinghy distance of basic services (groceries, fuel, etc)?

Are you talking about putting down your own mooring? All kinds of people have put down their own moorings around Key West. Their seems to be no regulation. In the rest of the Keys, the water cops would probably kick you out if you tried that.
The city of Key West is making you get a pump out receipt to use the downtown dinghy dock now, so that could be a problem.
