What's with it with Bay Area Marinas?

Background: my home-base marina is operated by the City of Vallejo. They are closed on weekends (no fuel service, guest registration, or whatever).

Requested a guest berth this coming Sunday night at the Berkeley Marina. They're closed on Sundays! What about Saturday night? The staff can't accept monies on the weekend, can you bring money Friday? We also need a copy of your boat registration and photo ID.

Just forget about it! Maybe some future weekday night.

Have scheduled a land cruise to Bodega Bay, staying overnight at a hotel Monday.

Hmmm... I've paid by credit card over the phone, and they assigned me a slip and put the gate key in the pedestal. We pulled in on a Saturday evening and out Sunday afternoon and never saw the staff, all good! Sorry to hear that it didn't work for you.

We've done the same in the San Francisco City marina also. And several places on the ICW in years past.

This thread should be entitled, "What Is It With Municipal Marinas?" Your problem isn't with Bay Area marinas as a whole.

Actually, SFBay is nothing but a lake surrounded by a very large city^3. Don't expect miracles here. Although its PRETENDS to be a sailors place, it sucks for cruising. This place is the most BORING place to be sailing. I mean it.

Go north, very far south or head to the eastcoast.

Yes I don't I am proud I DON'T have a boat in the bay area. Crewing is BORING in the Bay Area, almost as BORING as hearing people who have boat make remarks similar to your -- as if somehow $$$$ one make you suddenly an expert SAILOR. It's soooo pathetic and proves my point.

You have no idea how many I've crewed; nor how many I've looked at to BUY in the bay area. Berkeley marina? HAHAHAHAHA!!! Thank GOD i backed out of this expensive rat trap hole. This is absolutely the gawd awefullest place to own a boat or sail. The closest bestest place to be with fellow sailors is up on the Delta where they liveaboard and wait it out. Bypass SF toliet bowl and head east.

I HIGHLY suggest people on the west coast skip right by this place and head to the NW where real sailors live with fishies, or head directly south to anyplace, anywhere SD mexxxico whatever. Bypass this entitled tech trap augmented reality that people think is a sailors place. Its a touron trap.

There is nothing at all boring about entering or exiting the Golden Gate into the open pacific in the dark of night on a moving tide in a 35' wind driven vessel.
