Re: Garmin just purchased ActiveCaptain

I may be pessimistic, but it is my belief the Garmin bought out AC (and Navionics) to end up shutting them down and forcing sailors to use their proprietary stuff. Too bad they treat loyal customers...

Re: Garmin just purchased ActiveCaptain

Yep, the AC app is free thru Garmin. However it appeared it only works if you have newer Garmin products to work it in. It is not compatible with my 3210 MFD unit as far as I can tell. If any nerds...

Re: Black smoke on yanmar diesel

Check inside exhaust riser and header to look for carbon buildup. That will cause backpredur and choke the engine causing black smoke. My problem was located in the riser where the water inlet into...

Re: What would you do?

When you have an emergency aboard your boat, the cell phone is useless to call the boat 1/2 mile away unless you have his phone number. If you had had a working radio, you might have heard the call...

Re: Summer storage in FL -- Water tank full or empty

Re: Garmin just purchased ActiveCaptain

I think it may not bode well for AC users not owning Garmin products. When the bought out Delorme, we were told everything would be the same. Needless to say, it's not. Road Atlas is no longer...

Re: Why is sailing so formal?

It boils down to your boat, your rules. Your boat you're liable. Do what you want on your boat, but don't knock what others do on theirs. That applies to all of us. Like Dad said, you're under my...

Talking Re: Why is sailing so formal?

The least formal sailor that I know of would be Bob Bitchen. Look for Cruising Outpost magazine. It's about as informal as sailing can get intentionally. But the terminology is still the same. It's...
