It can be done but there are a few intricacies that you should really understand...if you don't and have a good eye for on the fly corrections/backup/etc...probably better to do it the old fashion...

OK... I see your point as small as it may be...I'm not sayig a compass is useless I'm just saying it is at the bottom of my nav usefulness in my 21st century navigation spread.

Not quite sure about your boat...but every one I've steered that runs under 10 knots, 2 second steering would be over correcting.

If it's that rough on a small boat to steer that much...usually...

I hope everyone is getting the idea of a 3 anchor "star" or whatever you want to call it is for a permanent or relatively long time mooring. If you prefer the idea over others, sure it could be set...

By the letter of the law and every know respected abstract on seamanship that I comply with (other than by single handed cruisers)..... single handling while a feat in itself is still poor seamanship...

Here's a powercat that runs entirely on solar from the forum stuff I have read....it does have diesel backups but they post that they cruise on electric only a lot of the time.

I like overall numbers for long trips because they actually give a better predictor in my case than trying to "guess at small calculations" all added together. If I piece together the last 5 trips up...
