Re: Fitting an inverter into an existing AC system

Can't chill. My air con is off because I am away from the boat!

Re: Fitting an inverter into an existing AC system

No, I didn't miss that.

I read where you close all seacocks when leaving the boat AND suggested that air con could be left running for dehumidification.

As most air con systems use pumped...

Re: Fitting an inverter into an existing AC system

Don't understand. Mutually exclusive conditions. One cannot close all sea cocks AND leave air con running.

Again, if you set your inverter low voltage cut-off properly, you will not have dead...

Re: Fitting an inverter into an existing AC system

I think we simply disagree about the air con system. IMHO, rather than leaving the air con system on, one should seal the leaks in the boat, and install passive ventilation or solar vents, so the air...

Re: Fitting an inverter into an existing AC system

Yeah, I didn't post my usual warning for fear people are getting tired of seeing it, but here goes...

Re: Fitting an inverter into an existing AC system

Absolutely! I rarely see these on inverter installations but they should be on all. Else, anyone, (including owner, subsequent owner, or service provider, may open the main breaker, assuming all AC...

Re: Fitting an inverter into an existing AC system

Absolutely!!!!!!

Per ABYC, within 10 feet of the vessel shore power inlet, there has to be a breaker (line and neutral) with reverse polarity indication, matching the current rating of the shore...

Re: Fitting an inverter into an existing AC system

Hi Carsten,

I wish I knew what type of inverter you have.

A proper marine inverter connected to the AC distribution panel, should be equipped with a shore power pass thru mode.

When shore...

Re: Fitting an inverter into an existing AC system

You are correct, that if you leave the low voltage cut-off at the factory setting, the inverter will take the batteries down lower than they should be taken, if you accidentally lose shore power.

Re: Fitting an inverter into an existing AC system

Well, I disagree with you. I believe all non-essential AC loads should be disconnected at the AC panel before leaving the boat, regardless how an inverter/charger is configured.

Rather than go...

Re: Fitting an inverter into an existing AC system

Standard practice is to connect shore power directly to marine inverter charger, and then connect inverter charger bypass to AC distribution panel input.

With an RCD (ELCI in NA) it would be nice...
