Thats why they will take a week to get working, rum bottle or not. (and I dont drink spirits).

But on a passage its better to use a week to try than to give up your boat and fail in your cruising...

I agree with that. But also take time at sea if theres a problem.
Sometimes the 'fix' isnt obvious, isnt easy etc. Its probably very easy to becaome overwhelmed and hit the EPIRB.

the guy thought if they drifted it would be 10 weeks to get to the Caribbean.
Well, my last trip there took me 4 weeks so its only 2.5 times as long as I took under full sail.
I always have enough...
