Really. I never caught that one. Since I do have a FL address I wasn't looking at that aspect of the situation.

So how do they expect an out of state, non-resident to have a FL address? ...

Well, at the end of the day that is what they are after. I guess you do need to keep a copy of the registration in case you are asked for it, just to avoid having to pay twice. :banghead:

My information from FL including phone calls to several state offices you do have to pay FL registration if the boat is in the state more than 90 days, even if you are only here on vacation and...

Ok, since the question keeps coming up I thought I would get the "official" definition. Your description is correct but state of FL adds some additional gotchas to cover other possible scenarios. ...

In Florida it is "Sales and Use tax". Lumped together so not sure what the distinction would be between sales tax and use tax. Bottom line it doesn't really seem to matter as the same regulations...

Really? That is a bit scary. When I bought my boat in NY and registered in RI (am dual resident of FL and RI) the FL Dept of Rev and DNR posted regs on the internet and both confirmed by phone...

There are two, totally separate issues with buying a boat in FL or keeping a boat in FL.

1. Sales or use tax. If you buy a boat in FL you have a deadline to remove that boat from the state or...
