Tillers do have a more natural feel. I think that is especially so for those who learned to sail with a tiller. You certainly can feel the load on the rudder much more so

I don't know about the European laws concerning distance, but I do know the international and US laws. Two miles would be WAY better than one mile. The white lights must remain proportionately...
