Re: Unsinkable Monohull - Why Not ?

This post on that thread by Camaraderie sounds like it's exactly the same system I have, except the length of hose between the thru hull and the chest. Since mine is factory and it sounds like his...

Re: Unsinkable Monohull - Why Not ?

What's above the waterline? The top of the sea chest? What does that have to do with the intake fittings? If you have to rely on each individual ball valve for each intake coming from the sea chest,...

Re: Unsinkable Monohull - Why Not ?

You'd have to suck it through the external strainer clamshell for that to happen. Not likely. After the ball valve theres only the thickness of the hull before the external strainer clamshell. Not...

Re: Unsinkable Monohull - Why Not ?

And as you can see in the pics, the clear lexan lid lets you see into the chest so you can see whats going on. With the ball valve open you can see right down into the ocean. This means you can see...

Re: Unsinkable Monohull - Why Not ?

Seems like your splitting hairs here. Its a box that stays full of seawater which you take all your intakes off of. What difference does it make whether it's fed by a thru hull or just open? The thru...

Re: Unsinkable Monohull - Why Not ?

Definitely a sea chest, not a strainer.

Re: Unsinkable Monohull - Why Not ?

Not sure why you would need to have the top above the waterline. On most sailboats you need the intake thru hull down low on the hull so it's always under water at any angle of heel. If you have the...

Re: Watertight bulkhead hatch - anyone seen one?

A Freeman hatch will do this. Had one on my last boat. They dog down completely watertight and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They are also very expensive.

Deck Hatches, Freeman Marine...
