Looks like his primary beef with that guy was abondoning his vessel and leaving it adrift as a hazard. We certainly can't accuse Eric of hypocrisy in that regard.

Pretty easy to mock people who "take a leap of faith" and then beg to be rescued by the government they so vigorously denigrated. Not much faith left when the SHTF for real, eh?

They were working cruisers. Eric even talks about working while they were on this last passage on the blog! Someone who needs to work while on passage probably does not have a huge kitty stashed...

I'm guessing bad heat exchanger or other cooling system part. They said she took on water every time they tried to start the engine. Probably not the packing gland. What a shame. At least all are...

Would it potentially be wiser for him to divert to Hawaii? At least there he could put the boat in a relatively cheap slip and get affordable air fare to San Diego and back. Wouldn't it be an easier...
