Re: Cheeki Rafiki loss report

I agree with you. The fact that they, being a credible institution presented criminal charges probably indicates that they have more information than you or me and that there is clear evidence of...

Re: Cheeki Rafiki loss report

I was talking about that particular model. We can say that the maintenance needed can be difficult and that it needs more than most, but that is pretty much sums the two years investigation results....

Re: Cheeki Rafiki loss report

Yes but over time is the key word and it is good not to forget that we are talking about a boat that is designed taking racing into consideration and most of them were used for racing, namely that...

Re: Cheeki Rafiki loss report

Has it was explained on this thread a hard grounding reparation with damage on those boats, due to the way they are built (with an integral matrix) is a very expensive affair. I remember that one of...

Re: Cheeki Rafiki loss report

I don't understand how you find that insignificant or a detail.

The ones that are bringing the charges is the crown prosecution service based and in close cooperation with the marine coastguard...

Re: Cheeki Rafiki loss report

It is significant that is not Beneteau that is charged but the boat operator and It can only be for inadequate maintenance and inadequate repairs to groundings (negligence).

Re: Cheeki Rafiki loss report

I doubt since my shipyard is the official shipyard from the brand and the guys that work there are the same that built the boats. Maybe it was just half a turn, dificult to say with the bigger lever...

Re: Cheeki Rafiki loss report

Not related with the First 40.7 but related with the lose keel bolts that seem to have played an important part on the keel loss.

Yesterday the bolt keels of my boat were tightened. The boat has 8...

Re: Cheeki Rafiki loss report

I don't understand what you want to highlight about the boat maintenance. The conclusions state that there is a need of a protocol for inspections and repairs and that's true but on the report it is...

Re: Cheeki Rafiki loss report

What has to do other boats with the statement that was made regarding the Cheeki Rafiki being in a good state of maintenance? That surveyor have looked at the same photos that were used on the MAIB...

That contradicts the analyses a reputable surveyor has made (he talked about negligence) and contradicts also what the MAIB report says about Cheeki Rafiki maintenance. Why do you say that? Based on...

Thanks, I will try to do that:smile:

Boat Yacht Naval Architecture evolved a lot since those days. On that time few were the ones that had a dedicated formal education on yacht design and I am not...

Re: Cheeki Rafiki loss report

You mean, you live on a country where buildings are not designed by architects? You mean that sailboats should not been designed by Naval Architects...because they are all trouble:biggrin:
