I assume you are suggesting applying new gel coat? Why?
If you sand, fill and fair the cracks (if any), prime and paint, why do a gel coat job?

I have tried several and decided that for the mess and the time it takes, I'd better off sanding. I do not regret. You will have to sand anyway, so save yourself the trouble and get packs of 40 and...
