To all my Aussie friends, and apparently to many of my American friends (depending on which state you sail in): Come to Canada, the land of the free … at least free to drink at anchor :wink:.

Too true, and not just in Oz. Here in Canada as well :frown:. It’s a sign of the times I guess. It seems that the first thing we do when bad things happen is to look for someone else to blame....

Well, I’d love to see an actual reference for this Dave. I’ve looked again and can’t find definitive data. The US does seem to have more lawyers/capita than anywhere else, and I found one document...

Agreed :thumb: My experience with boating authorities is that if you aren’t being an ass, aren’t causing a disturbance, and aren’t obviously flouting the laws then the water cops tend to leave...

In Canada it is legal to drink while at anchor on a typical cruising boat (one that has a permanent sleeping facilities, permanent cooking facilities and a permanent toilet). Anchoring is equivalent...
