Re: Unreliable Outboards

Hey Frank,

Again, I had the same issue. It's only a matter of time with ethanol. Do this, replace your carborator (that may be less than actually paying to get it cleaned), get rid of the old...

No, the people having issues with ethanol are those with 4 stroke engines. Doesn't matter the fuel source (unless you get aviation gas like we do where you don't have to worry about ethanol). ...

Outboards get more peculiar the longer you own them. PDQ 36s are powered exclusively by outboards, so I've run our old boat on its outboards a few thousand miles. What I've noticed is that...

For our Nissan 5hp I replaced the carb and then only use avgas in it now. Runs extremely well now. The airport guessed my purpose first try "Ah, you must be a boat owner?" Seems that the pros...

Seafoam question, how do you use it when starting it? Spray it in through the carborator air intake as your cranking it?

yahama enduro in the states

I've owned a couple Yamahas. In my opinion, the best outboard out there. But I've only owned the 4 strokes and given a choice I'd pick the 2 stroke enduro everytime due to its great reputation. ...

It seems though for anyone wanting to get a new outboard here in the states they're facing a problem. E10 gasoline is mandatory. 4 strokes are mandatory. And e10 plus a non fuel injected...

I'm seeing a bit of a trend, it seems like the two strokes handle the ethanol a lot better than the 4 strokes with their much smaller jets. Those with newer 4 stroke outboards may simply not have...
