Re: Chineese or cheap forced air disel heaters vs expencive alternatives

Update: I removed the combustion air intake hose and the cabin air intake duct. Ran it up to about 75% for 15-20 minutes. No overheat error codes or shutdown.

I'm calling this the solution. For...

Re: Chineese or cheap forced air disel heaters vs expencive alternatives

I'm using very short runs for the ducts. Just an aluminum "el" for the outlet, and a short aluminum flex duct for the inlet. None of that plastic dryer vent hose with all the ribs to restrict flow.

Re: Chineese or cheap forced air disel heaters vs expencive alternatives

All right, a fan on the combustion side is out.

The ducts are short and only use 2 el's and no significant obstructions. Using the numbers in the manual, I'd be maybe a "2." I don't think that's...

Re: Chineese or cheap forced air disel heaters vs expencive alternatives

Any chance that a small fan on the combustion air intake side would help?

Re: Chineese or cheap forced air disel heaters vs expencive alternatives

It's overheated (shut down with an error code) on anything much above half-way on the heat setting since it was first installed. The air intake and outlet are within a couple of feet of the unit,...

Re: Chineese or cheap forced air disel heaters vs expencive alternatives

Right. Mine came with a plastic hose for the combustion air intake. I think the idea is to quiet things down a little. I plan to remove mine, since the unit is behind some cabinetry anyway, and I...

Re: Chineese or cheap forced air disel heaters vs expencive alternatives

Yes, I think the long run (+/- 6-8' or 2m) is part of the problem. It looks like the designers expected a very short exhaust hose, straight down to the underside of a vehicle, not snaked up, down and...

Re: Chineese or cheap forced air disel heaters vs expencive alternatives

First, I looked up my old Amazon order to verify I mentioned the correct product. It's Heatshield Products 170001 Heatshield Armor 1/4" Thick x 6" Wide x 5' Long Exhaust Pipe Heat Shield...

Re: Chineese or cheap forced air disel heaters vs expencive alternatives

Had these Chinese $200 units been available when I was looking, I would gladly have bought one (or two) compared to the $600 Planar. Now you've got me thinking about buying one for the forward...

Re: Chineese or cheap forced air disel heaters vs expencive alternatives

I bought mine on Amazon. It came from Russia, with all kinds of Russian Post Office writing all over the box. And it was about $650.

I'd be interested to hear some experience with these, too!...

Re: Chineese or cheap forced air disel heaters vs expencive alternatives

I have a Russian "Planar" unit. They're very well regarded, with good reviews wherever you look. It works well. It appears and functions identically to the name brand units which cost 3 times more.
