I have a keel stepped mast and there is a heavy wire from the mast shoe to the keel. I got hit, right on the masthead. When we hauled the boat for inspection there was "treeing" (burnt paint...

She stay at home all the time now. Used to get seasick and make a mess in my duvet. (the cat, not me).

My feline critter is smarter than I am. She refuses to sail if there's any inkling that electrical activity is going to occur.

Reduce sail, and then pray. I am not joking having been struck by lightning while under sail. Oh yes, one other tip, don't hang onto the rigging.
