The problem is your choice of heat shrink butt splices. Better to apply the heat shrink after doing a proper connection. Your first tool would have done the job.

Here you simply first extend the pigtails, then connect to terminal strip, as before. In damp locations like this all terminations are lastly coated with Liquid 'Lectrical Tape.

If your major electrical work is just to install a pig-tailed interior light, or two, then you might mostly use butt splices. But there's usually a much better way to make the connection.

Get the good double-crimp crimpers. You'll be using mostly that type of terminal. You can add shrink wherever it is required.
