Yes, I think so. I cracked the nuts on each and got the air out. I have no idea to work out whether each is getting fuel at the correct time though.

I've also cracked each nut on each fuel pump...

Yes, seem to be getting fuel now. No black smoke. Accelorator didn't seem to do anything when it was briefly going with ether.

guys,

someone mentioned adding a 'day' tank to which I transfer fuel from the keel tank into the day tank through a filter and then use the day tank to run off.

Can someone mind explaining...

Nope, can't seem to get that to work. It's natural place is 'up', when I squeeze the primer lever its down.

The diaphragm 'looked' ok. I couldn't see any cracks in it at all. I'm going to blow the pipes out before I put them back together just in case one of those is blocked.

Of course there is yes :facepalm: I wasn't thinking clearly.

Fuel goes first to the lift pump, then the primary filter and then the injector pumps.

:thumb: fingers crossed. Firstly that I can put the injector pumps back in without a problem and secondly that the lift pump mess 'was' the problem. I'm a little surprised that some of that gunk...

It is cheap yes. But, I don't want to trust someone else's old engine. I motor sail too much to rely on a second hand engine.

From when I wrote that post I've now sourced a repair kit for $119 + freight. So much better.

:thumb: first thing I questioned. :confused: thank goodness the engine has a primary filter.

I can't see how it could have gotten past the racor. Which makes me wonder if it had been collecting...

When I rigged it in the first place I had it on the floor, so below the engine. When the mechanic was trying to get it going we had it on a shelf above the engine.
