Re: Another foundering how do chart plotters get it wrong

Re: Another foundering how do chart plotters get it wrong

You don't...

Re: Another foundering how do chart plotters get it wrong

I'm well aware of what AIS is, I have it my self. But I suspect you know that.

"and showing those boats doing an obvious dog-leg around that reef - while Vestas either ignored the display...

Re: Another foundering how do chart plotters get it wrong

Mark, I'm getting the impression nothing will convince you to concede anything at all. And when you intentionally use his comment about a four year degree to further the dispute, it is pretty obvious...

Re: Another foundering how do chart plotters get it wrong

I recently had my mooring tackle lifted and inspected. When they put it back they put it back in the wrong place, which would have it hitting another yacht. My club had it then lifted again and out...

:peace:

Guys, unless you raise something completely new to add to the discussion, there is simply no benefit in constantly having a go at each other.

And frankly, to an observer you both...

Re: Another foundering how do chart plotters get it wrong

If that's the case then there being a bit 'nick picking' though I can see why.

But, as I have repeated twice, I have no idea what happened with this particular vessel. I was just using...

Re: Another foundering how do chart plotters get it wrong

Strawman is a kind of argument of which many on here probably wouldn't even know about if it wasn't for an episode of 'The Big Bang Theory'.

And it got to that because of some pedantic nick...

Ours are $35 a pop. I just purchased three of the five I really needed. Not a nice surprise to my budget.

Re: Another foundering how do chart plotters get it wrong

:thumb: I agree for that particular area. I've been past there at night having never traversed it previously and I just gave about a miles clearance. But then once it get's dark I give everything a...

Re: Another foundering how do chart plotters get it wrong

 na, before I purchased a new anchor last year I did a search and upon getting the results I decided it was better to ask locally. :thumb:

My question about chart plotters was a little...

Re: Another foundering how do chart plotters get it wrong

Wow! :frown: I really didn't expect this simple question to turn into such a 'discussion'.

I've well and truly got my answer I was seeking, and I now understand how it's happening. Though I'm...

Re: Another foundering how do chart plotters get it wrong

This is a good article on Australian charts.
It seems to me that the official advice is the best advice.

Make sure you have paper charts.
Don't rely solely on electronic charts, nor solely...

Re: Another foundering how do chart plotters get it wrong

Years ago when I was a coppa, (that's Bill to you poms and bacon I think to you Yanks), I attended to a guy who had fallen out on to a jetty after ramming his runabout. He insisted it (the peer)...

Re: Another foundering how do chart plotters get it wrong
