Correction: one of them was a 110v AC bulb, so... :biggrin:

In truth, neither of the bulbs you bought was suitable for 12v in boats (the CAN-bus 12v one might have worked; the 110v AC one would...

LEDs as raw components care about polarity. Commercial LED incandescent bulb replacements may or may not care, depending on how they were designed. Better?
