By "American" I believe Bob was referring to the Imperial sizing vs metric sizing. not to country of origin.

Where have you seen this distinction? I haven't seen heat-shrink described as "marine" or not... I've just seen different vendors - some with a "marine" orientation (and pricing ;) )
