Accounting and bookkeeping...

I am not referring to the exotic accounting that seems so prevalent these days, rather to simple double entry book keeping.

I have not seen any reference to failure of book keeping in this crisis....

My guess...

My guess is that the money has gone to :-
1) China and related Asian countries, courtesy of an artificially low exchange rate.
2) Arab countries, courtesy of high oil prices.
3) Offshore accounts...

I cannot work out where all the money has gone.

As far as I can work out there has to be some first Law of Economics (rather like the First Law of Thermodynamics...
