The way a voltage regulator works is that it compares the voltage on its sense wire to some setpoint, say 14.1v. If the sensed voltage is less than the setpoint, it raises the voltage on the field... |

I went back and read the OP, and I have another theory. The boat has a "Surepower 702" battery isloator, which is diode based, and will drop the voltage from the alternator about 0.6 volts. ... |

Don't bother taking your alternator off until you run the following test. 1. disconnect dock power 2. Start engine and run until voltage stabilizes, then run for another half hour. 3. Turn on... |
