To me, it is more likely that the problem is a failure of one of the check valves in the pump. Here is a flow diagram of the Simrad hld2000.

If it makes you feel any better, I installed a new Simrad linear hydraulic drive in Hawaii and it came with a dodgy solenoid. It worked well enough on my shakedown sail from Oahu to Kauai, but...
