Check the vented loop in the discharge hose.......there is a small valve at the top of it that is the device that prevents possible backflow (as a vacuum breaker). If that sticks open it will allow a...

You may have salt water depsoits in the rim of the bowl. I would suggest disconnecting the intake hose and slowly pump a bleach or vinagar solution through the system.
