The tidal current is about the same as Man of War Harbor in Key West.(West side of Fleming Key)

TAMI, I just followed your advise and opened ActiveCaptain, strange that they do not show Similar Sound as a anchorage.

Did you have any difficulty navigating into Similar Sound? Was the channel markers there 20 years ago? Did you visit Geiger Key Marina?

If you stay between the red and green markers you should be in the channel.

I am not a Captain, only a owner. Although I do live nearby and I cannot understand why the anchorage is not used.

I am not suggesting to anchor in the channel or between G15 and G16. I am suggesting anchoring in the Sound North of the Channel Markers. This is probably the best anchorage between Marathon and...

The rows of submerged pilings are the old road/bridge foundations. Dredging probably occurred during construction an/or demolition. I wonder if anyone has explored the bottom? The incoming tide is...

Try Google Earth, it might clarify the anchorage area for you.
I have never seen the submerged piles.

Someone should update Active Captain. Saddlebunch Harbor is tiny compared to Similar Sound.

Don't leave the channel, stay between 'R' and 'G', the tight spot is near 'R15'. The harbor is South of Similar Sound and only room for a few boats.

My boat draws 7 feet and have found it easy to get into Similar Sound. There is one tight spot in the South end of the Sound, North end of small island.

Similar Sound is on the East side of Geiger Key and North of Saddlebunch Harbor.

*** Geiger Key Marina/restruant/bar/rv park
*** 20' deep anchorage with 6'-7' deep entrance
*** Circle K store, diesel, gasoline...
