Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

Finally getting around to doing some more testing of MPPT vs. PWM on LFP batteries.

It was stated by some that MPPT does not work well on LFP? I had never found this to be true.

Day 1 testing...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

The original ones built to Aurinco's specs, with the Aurinco specified components, do not suffer these problems that I have seen. The Chinese substituted cheaper components and this is the type of...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

Dennis,

Long story behind that controller.

It was designed and engineered by Aurinco. Aurinco then had it built by a Chinese manufacturer. For a few years all was good then one day they got an...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

Guys the testing I was referencing was NOT that demonstration. That demonstration does not translate into real wold but it shows how an MPPT works, which was the point. I believe I mentioned as much...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

Terry,

I have no idea what "MPPT" controller you are using, sounds like more of a fancy sticker than an actual MPPT, but what you describe is not how any MPPT controller I've ever used or...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

When they go back into boost/bulk mode?

My MPPT is always in bulk to about 99% SOC.. Due to the high acceptance and the relatively small current source of the array. My MPPT never hits voltage...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

I have done lots of testing that shows they do perform just fine on multiple panels..... I use a PentaMetric analyzer with a computer data recording interface. I can track multiple shunts & voltages...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

Do yourself a favor and please ignore the Chinese spec sheets and follow what guys like Jack Rickard, companies like Genasun, Clean Power Auto, Charlie J, T1 Terry already know... You DO NOT need to...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

I would be very careful with those charge voltages. Alex MeVay of Genasun has done more testing with CALB cells than anyone I know of. Even with their highly sophisticated BMS, which is specifically...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

*AGM for best life max DOD = 50%

*AGM on the hook is hard to get back above 85% SOC* so 35% usable (*where you leave bulk and hit absorption voltage will depend upon your available current. Could...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

Please be VERY careful with any of the Chinese controllers on eBay. Many of them temp compensate inside the controller with no way to turn them off and some don't even declare they do this in the...
