Doh, I was thinking in terms of percentage spread between prices not as % of Volvo list price...so yes you can acquire the same model of Mitsubishi starter for 80% less (20%) of Volvo retail price....

The starter is built by Mitsubishi and is readily available from many reputable auto parts dealers for many times more than 80% less.

What value is that you perceive Volvo adds for almost a 700% markup on exactly the same product?

Trouble is that Volvo does not provide cross ref info so entering a Volvo part number is likely to only hit parts from Volvo Distributors at Volvo prices. Using the actual OEM info is much more...

To their credit I have had a few, not many, Volvo distrubitors have the same reaction...guess they didn't drink all their corporate issue koolaid and so are still shocked at the outrageous gouging.
