Re: Help Me Understand My Whisker Pole - Please

Yes, I have a spinnaker halyard, but no spinnaker. I intend to use that for a topping lift in my first attempts to pole out the genoa.

Maybe one day I'll have a drifter or reacher, but for now I...

Re: Help Me Understand My Whisker Pole - Please

My spinnaker halyard sheave is on an arm that over-reaches the forestay to the port side about 10-15 degrees.

Of course I'm learning here, but looks like it would fly a spinnaker to port or...

Re: Help Me Understand My Whisker Pole - Please

Thanks Bash, that makes sense. It also means I can attach it without pulling the loop even if I'm not in a hurry. I had not realized that yet.

I've finally got this thing figured out, I think, and...

Re: Help Me Understand My Whisker Pole - Please

I've seen it on youtube as well I think. At least I think it's the same video because the person on camera is the same. I didn't press play.

I should watch it to make sure there isn't a close up...

Re: Help Me Understand My Whisker Pole - Please

Most of the seminar applied to newer style poles. No mention of my type. Except to say how to deploy from deck chocks like I have. That helped.

A couple of things mentioned:

- using it set at...

Re: Help Me Understand My Whisker Pole - Please

Thanks, I still haven't looked there. I was trying to get out on the bay before the winds picked up.

edit,.... there's no pictures there, but I will read it for a clue about which ends where....

Re: Help Me Understand My Whisker Pole - Please

Here's a closer look at the smaller hook, it's on the larger diameter section of the pole opposite from the end where the smaller diameter section of the pole extends.

When I thought one hooked to...

Re: Help Me Understand My Whisker Pole - Please

Just thinking out loud here. But I agree with Paul's statement (though retracted) about the big hooked end going to the clew or onto the sheet. The tubular plunger going through without chaffing the...

Re: Help Me Understand My Whisker Pole, Please

Thanks again everyone. I'll check the seminar link.

Bash, I'm thinking I need a foreguy to prevent lifting of the pole while sailing then. Correct? Or does it help control sail shape? I have some...

Re: Help Me Understand My Whisker Pole, Please

Here's a picture. The inset shows the smaller tube diameter end. The overall shows the larger tube diameter closest to the camera.

Probably would work either way, but help me understand which end...

Re: Help Me Understand My Whisker Pole, Please

Thanks for the responses.

I was considering attachment to the sheet (not clew eye) as appropriate based on a youtube video. And also considered the proper length to be whatever mast to furled sail...

Help Me Understand My Whisker Pole - Please

I don't know the brand. I can post pictures. It's not a twist lock style, nor a line extended style.

It has two buttons on opposite sides to press to release. These are located on the external...
