In the remote islands of the Bahamas, you'll still see conch drying on clothes lines. I believe they are heavily salted first, but I never asked locals how they do it. Perhaps smoke is also involved....

I used to use the oven but after reading up on the new (Ronco) dehydrator I can see the value in having controll-able vents, twirling shelves for frequent (manual) rotation and a steady heat source....
