Sorry Orriss.... it was the GPS that was out.... we had some non-sailing friends on board and I was demo'ing how to integrate GPS info onto the chart... the plotted GPS position was Dragonera......

Don't know if anyone is familiar with them but RN lifeboats used to have a set of Ocean Charts for all seas... thats what I use for crossing and offshore passages... dated 1978... not too worried...

Old school we got used to a style of sailing that we were comfortable with... 3 bearing fixes, dead reckoning, drift and leeway factors......

I'd say that's more down to better marine survey techniques and more accuracy in the modern day charts in heavily populated areas... the reason for inaccuracies in say the Pacific and Indian Ocean...
