What folk forget.. or in some cases do not realise is that Geographical location can make an enormous difference to survival.. and as for MarkJ's theories/suspicions... well... every single cruising...

Scurvy is a result of a lack of 'FRESH' food and the resultant minerals and vitamins... old time sailors got it because their diet at sea was invariably salt pork and hard tack..

Was anchored off Praia de Vitoria in Terceira, Azores and a lady crew member saw a pretty fish nibbling the algae on the scoop.....

Well.. I lived on red lentils and chapati for around 30 days rather than open any of the 19 x 1lb tins of corned beef I had on board.. did have 20 but that one went over the side after the 1st...

Why would reports of a Mexican shark fisherman or two going missing.. yesterday or 12 mths back... even ripple CF's surface... probably did not ripple much in Mexico either.. or any where else..

I presume you've done a search of all Mexican local news reports for Dec 2012 and Jan 2013 on the W coast... that must have been hard work

Much better.. current is 10-20mpd... then allow for wind drift etc would make it closer and as he got further W he'd start catching SW'lies.. alter his drift rate and direction.

No way would he have drifted as according to Cotemars map past Hawaian islands... the currents in the N Pacific are circular so they'd have taken him SW and then W... also you'd have put winds into...
