Velcro would be alright to just hold the floorboards but if you plan to store paint tins, lube oil, spare parts and tools underneath the floor boards then it would not be up to the job.

Magnets may secure the floorboards but they won't secure anything else stored below the floorboard: Tool boxes, oils, parts etc will have to be secured somehow.

I think something mechanical...

I plan to use over center toggle latches. Mine are very cheap SS latches bought on eBay similar to these. (You can buy them for about $A3.50 ea. 2.50 USD?)
