What I was suggesting Leveche40 do on his water tank would be bloody dangerous on a fuel tank without the taps/valves but they cost around $A300.

Maybe in the US of A a similar product to Crommelin's Water based bitumen is called "Liquid Rubber"?

With a water tank I'd tap into the bottom of the tank and attach a bit of food grade clear tubing up the side of the tank and use it as a "sight gauge".

I'll go along with that. I'd be suspicious about using anything that uses a "Part B Hardener" because that means it has to "cure" and the conditions may not be suitable for a satisfactory cure.

I'm almost certain it is.

When I was making up my tanks I spoke to the resin supplier and told him what I was planning (to store the water in fiberglass tanks (uncoated) as my fellow boat-builders...

Fiberglass is not considered safe to store potable water unless it has been coated.

There is a lot on the Internet regarding styrene the potential threat to health.

I'd sand the inside through the inspection port if you can and if you can't then maybe you should add another port as potable water tanks should be cleaned regularly.
