People seem to worry much more about lightning in Panama and the San Blas than they do in Florida, but I don't think it is any worse. It is a bit hard to make out, but this map seems to show more... |

We experienced frequent thunderstorm activity beginning in late May, early June, probably peaking in July. But, not much you can do about it now unless you plan on heading back north before hurricane... |

The folks over at Shelter Bay could probably bring it in for you and have it delivered there too. Don't know what the price would be. If you went in to the marina I'm sure some of the other dockers... |

Colon is very dangerous, but most other cruising areas outside of there are fine in Panama. The Chagres River has seen some robberies, etc., but most cruisers seem to be fine--it is close to Colon.... |

Portobello is fairly close, but there are only a few docks in there and in certain conditions there is quite a swell in both the anchorage and at any docks--not sure you would call it a marina,... |

Shelter Bay is very nice, very safe, and fairly expensive, and hard to get a dock space I hear. They have good facilities for haulouts and repairs, and contacts with people who can do good work. It... |
