True, but look at his usage, day sailing then plugged into mains each night, so does he need a 400AH bank at $400, or say a a pair of 12v batteries at a third of the price?

My choice would be a pair of 12v type 31 flooded lead acid with caps so you can top the water up occasionally. I like the Varta Hobby 110AH which have lasted us 7 years so far, the first set lasted...
