At the very least call a friend to be aboard if you need more than two hands, which you will if that seacock fails. And have your phone keyed up to your local diver. Seacocks can be very deceptive,...

I don't see any pictures, but do see this is an older vessel. Could this be a gate valve?
Be sure to be ready for water intrusion.
