Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

No issue designing a SEPIC mppt to handle the low voltages can't see why someone hasn't din it

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

I not going to argue the cost issue terry that's really a different issue.

The fact is once the panel can deliver with its operating point at Vmp it will always outperform pwm .

In absorption...

MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

Sorry terry. Your post shows a fundamental misunderstanding of Vmp and mppt.

In PVs it all about max power transfer not mxa current transfer

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

The term regulator is very confusing , as a PWM charging regime is not really a regulator in the sense of a linear or switch mode " regulator "

What I meant was that the panel has considerable...

MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

We need to be careful about bandying around terms like PWM and MPPT. solar regulators that use MPPT in the main do not use PWM as the output charging regime. They use pure DC derived from a switched...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

Exactly, if either see pwm or mppt , if you have spare solar capacity. Turn on another load. !!!

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

Mppt in itself has nothing to do with charging batteries and many combined mppt/battery chargers are as you point out not well set up for Li. Often they enter CV mode and throttle back the current...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

LTC are just sampling a new integrated mppt chip , $ 4 in quantity. It integrates a full tracking mppt logic, switching power conversion and a full CC/CV battery charger algorithm. Should provide...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

Just a point, power consumption and the quality of mppt tracking are not linked

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

I couldn't agree more , for high voltage panels , seperate mppt makes loads of sense. Just be careful you have enough operating voltage available for given shading and derating for panel temp. If Vmp...

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

Why people rate AgM as a good battery is beyond me

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

You the man , I suppose you could put tubes on it and make it into a RIB

Re: MPPT Charge Controller for LifePO4 Batteries

Fundamentally , there isn't anything inherently expensive in a mppt controller, but they have been pitched at the upper end of the market, with a price to match.

lots of things, solar parking...
