Load dumping with the typical battery banks in boats is not an issue. You are protecting something , that doesn't typically occur.

if you want to use RS422 in a gounded system,...

if you want to use RS422 in a gounded system, then just ground the receivers - signal, the output ( talker) "-" is left disconnected. Both talker and receiver must be on a common power ground....
