As a matter of interest do I actually need a rudder position sensor if I have a gyro2 in my system? This is a sailboat with a tiller.

Yes, it's a good idea to use one otherwise I suspect the autopilot, a Raymarine S1 and a smart heading sensor will likely work as a "Bang, Bang" system, not good in a good sea.

I understand from a previous post somewhere that the Raymarine sensor is a 5k pot, I don't know what it is on the Alpha Actuator and I too are a long way from the boat to measure it

The Alpha Actuator that I have does not have a clutch, but it does indeed have a feedback pot, it think it would make for a better system if I can use this sensor. Oh, my boat is tiller steered so...
