No, there is no "putting 14V into batteries". A battery that is not full does not allow the voltage to go up there. What you put into batteries is energy expressed in Ah or kWh.

:confused::confused: why use a solar panel to measure a controller on the bench? It would be highly unusual to do so and results would be flawed when even the slightest change in light would occur.

I'm 100% with MaineSail on this; only the bulk mode matters; during absorption and float you are wasting array output and controller efficiency is irrelevant.

In bulk phase, a good MPPT controller...

It is for people who recently bought a PWM controller. It doesn't work for them if their choice wasn't the most optimal, so MPPT must be bad, PWM good.
