self tapping screws are pretty much NEVER the "right way" in a laminate much less a cored one.

The adhesive solutions like this and click bond (https://www.clickbond.com/Uploads/SupportPDF/636246673085275746.pdf) are really good solutions.

Completely respects the skin integrity....

From your article “The fastest way to attach light hardware to a cored deck is a self-tapping screw” - not sure I agree, click bond and the other good adhesive mounts would seem to me...

got to say, short screws into laminate are just not right.

something like click bond (https://www.clickbond.com/) studs or mounts would be a more proper solution. There are other good adhesive...
