Re: Rigging and Sails
I have sailed my Lucia for 3 seasons now and still find the main hard to drop. There are two things that definitely contribute. 1: Halyard twist. Initially we used to use the power winch to... |

Re: Rigging and Sails
I would have like to remove the Wichard snap shackle but when I tried that it looked like the strop would chafe against the head car. |

I used 5mm Dyneema and some anti chafe sleeve in the critical spots. I only had a short length but would prefer to cover the whole strop. |

Re: Rigging and Sails
Hi Ian The strop that I made up looks a little Heath Robinson but works beautifully! The length is critical and you should only use my measurements as a guide and fine tune the length by trial... |

Re: Rigging and Sails
Hi All Another question. The Antal V Cam clutches grip really well and don't seem to be too hard on the ropes. HOWEVER they do not release the line fully and there is a lot of friction when... |

Re: Rigging and Sails
I have recently fitted a dyneema strop running from the Wichard hook through the head ring, back through the Wichard hook and fastened at the first batten car. It works a treat! Just needed a... |

Re: Rigging and Sails
I was also wondering about a hard shackle. It would have less friction than the loop. although I think the Karver is Aluminium and that may not like a S/S piece engaging with it. |

Re: Rigging and Sails
I have not seen the Karver system. I guess I will be able to find it online somewhere. |

Re: Rigging and Sails
I quite like the idea of the hook on the batten car. Easier to hook up than a shackle but does not reduce friction when you drop the sail. Perhaps the collective brainpower on the forum can come up... |

Re: Rigging and Sails
Thanks for that The downhaul makes sense although having to retrieve it at the same time to prevent it foiling could be an issue. I normally use a dry silicon lube on the cars. Easy enough... |

Rigging and Sails
I guess this is not unique to the Lucia but I find the square top main a real pain to deal with. 2 Issues: a) Hooking up the head ring to the top batten car prior to hoisting. The FP manual... |
