I think there are do many butyl tapes out there we have different experiences. I use the readily available and cheap gray stuff in the plumbing section at Ace Hardware.

No leaks and no melted...

Updating... The Dow is cracked at the surface but is still soft which means it probably isn't cracked deeper in.

I'm going to hold off on the tape I planned to put over the cracked sealant...

This is the stuff that I am ending up using.

Keeping in mind the VHB tape is what holds the windows in place, and that is already there, I just have to get the water from the roof onto the face of...

Yes. This is the ideal way to do it. Unfortunately no frame or rebate here which is the issue.

The windows are set using VHB tape pretty far back from the edges. They aren't going anywhere without a grinder.

In order to solve the problem once and for all and not have to experiment, I got myself some black roof flashing tape. That is bridging the gap. Directing the water from the roof down onto the window...

I'm leaning away from the goop at this point. Seems like a less than ideal way to keep water out of an 1/8" crack that moves a lot.

Was also considering epoxying a piece of u-channel along the top to simply direct water over the gap and onto the window where it runs off.

Any thoughts about that?

Looks like I’ll give this another go. I do have the thickest VHB tape made. Because previous VHB tape failed due to not being thick enough.

Unfortunately, I do not have a recessed for the sealant....
