Just to add some drift. Watching docking is almost as much fun as going to a boat ramp on the weekend.

I don't think most have thrusters. They just get carried away with
RPMs, forward and reverse. Response is not instantaneous.

Backing a trawler, single screw displacement, is not a problem with a barn door rudder with a good amount of leading edge on it. Most twins have postage stamp rudders, ever see someone dock a twin...

I'm with you on the trawler being a single. I have only seen one built with twins, it was built for shrimping. A Lucander designed 73'. The builder/owner hated it after a short period of time. Sold...
