Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

I believe you and I are on the same page. I hate being pushed down a following sea. If it is running faster than me I would prefer it passed me as opposed to pushing me into the wave ahead and...

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

That in conjunction with sailboats generally having a rudder the size of a barn door, due to lack of prop wash for maneuvering account for a large helm wheel. I better qualify that while under sail,...

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

I loved your pic of the coast of Chile. The Google maps of their location was neat. Looked a little cool or chilly for me. Pun intended. Some beautiful places. Thanks for posting the link.

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

Out of curiosity! What are the spools of line in the pic to the left?

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

I would hazard a guess that no place for the helmsman to sit, is their racing configuration. Appears from their website, X Yachts, that they produce a racing line of boats and a cruising line.. Never...

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

I thought I was slow at wry humor. It appears not as slow as some?

Not unless you bury the bow.

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

That looks like one hell of a boat. I'm afraid I would need to sell something. I might look like the guy with the 640 FICO looking to borrow 7K?

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

Sometimes I have to believe some people are arm chair sailors. Granted I'm not the best.

Speaking of what you have read someplace? Or speculation on design without any actual education or even...

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

I was in the same quandary about the leakage on deck stepped masts? Let it go. It's not important. Probably 75% of posts need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

Does any of this have anything to do with the average Joe and his boat?

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

Even well known naval architects will throw stones a one another. One wrote me he wouldn't hold it against me that I had met another. It may have been in jest or not? I feel sure nothing meant in...

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

Probably works on expensive long range racers, singling. I hope tanks are well baffled. Not my cup of tea. I want all tankage as low as possible and well baffled. Sloshing water can transfer a bunch...

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

I'm with you. I fail to see how water is ballast since it has about the same specific gravity as the sea. I guess it does displace air. I can't see water for more than fresh water needs and since it...

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

We can agree to disagree. It is not wether the bow is plumb or not. It is the flair. I just don't like being a submarine. Seems like pitch poling is much more likely. A chop was mentioned. Slicing...

Re: Pilothouse Variations -- Boreal

I would like to hear from those plying European waters. With the numerous canals and the North Sea I feel sure there are many deck stepped masts that are gimbaled.
